Bumptop is a 3D desktop application which is meant to make your desktop operations (dragging, dropping, e-mailing, printing etc) intuitive. What BumpTop actually does is drop the 2D desktop to a specific angle and builds walls around it. It’s about organization, for people who like to use their desktop space as a dumping ground for files. You can pick them up and place them anywhere, throw them to one of the floors, you can toss them and you can even stack them on top of each other.
The walls are used for hanging items or use the space instead to place photo frames with either a still photo or a slideshow with BumpTop. Just click on a picture and hit on left or right arrows and you will start to preview all pictures on the desktop one by one. You are productive and socially connected since it comes with four special wall icons for your e-mail box, default printer, Facebook and Twitter account. Just drag and drop any files to one of those 4 icons and the required operation will be carried on such as printing a document or sending an attachment via email for instance as Outlook. Sticky Notes (limited to 2 in the free version) are included so you can place reminders on the walls in clear view. Running BumpTop for the first time, you’re introduced to a quick, 5 steps tutorial showing you how to navigate around your desktop and use the included features.

BumpTop stores its settings in the user profile only – no settings are stored in the system registry. This is where the settings are stored :

Double click any wall to center the camera over it. To return to the default position, you can double-click an empty area on the floor.
Some BumpTop features:
- Drag an arc or click and drag to draw a circle around the items you want to select. You can now move these items together, or perform an action on them.Such as Shrink, Grid, Create Pile, Pile by, Grow and More. Or pile can be created with Lasso ‘n’ Cross gesture. Pile by Type and/or by Name are supported.
- Just double- click on the stack pile of files and you will see a very convenient grid view. Or for more options click and drag a circle around the item and you can choose either Grid, Folder Size, Break Pile, Fan Out, Flip Page (BumpTop Pro) and more.
- You can just drag document on a printer icon and it will start printing.
- You can send files as attachment by drag and drop to the mail icon or upload images to Twitter or Facebook.
You can customize some aspects of BumpTop through the Settings window. Look for the BumpTop icon in the system tray menu bar and select settings. The same menu also lets you manually check for updates, change camera angle, move BumpTop to another monitor, quit BumpTop and more such as to change wallpapers on individual floor or on all them. You can customize your BumpTop room so that it looks like a space station or as a checkers game board and more. Yes its fully customizable. There is also some options that can be disabled if the laptop is running on the battery and this to minimize the power draining issues.
Gaining three more “walls” that interacts with each one is something interesting. The company used PhysX to add some intelligence – for example, more frequently used files appear bigger and actually get ‘heavier’ and push ‘lighter’ files out of the way when they bump into each other”. Developers say that this “feeling” will have much more weight if you use a touchscreen display.
There is a Pro Version for $29 that offers some more features (Unlimited stickers, you can toss files to a flash drive, flip through piles, no watermarks and most used files growth). So if you need to have more space on your desktop then go ahead download the free version and if you are more pc active then upgrade with your convenience. BumpTop runs on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Xp to Vista versions. Some testing are also done on Windows 7.
